On November 18th, 2016, National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China issued 53 National standards for food safety on food-contact materials (No. 45 Notice of 2016), which means a new standard system for food-contact materials has been established. The new system includes four kind of documents, basic standards, products standards, standards for test methods and production specification.
Totally 2 basic standards, 9 products standards and 41 standards for test methods, as well as another related food safety standards has been published at this time. The basic standards including National Standards for Food Safety-General Requirements for Food-contact Materials and products, National Standards for Food Safety-Standard for application of Food Additives and Food-contact Materials and products will take effect on December 19th,2017. The 9 products standards will take effect on April 19th, 2017, and materials including plastics, papers, metals, rubbers, coatings, ceramics, glasses, enamels and related products are covered.
