Support developing Parties to phase-out industrial Persistent Organic Pollutants

In July 2014, Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific reached an agreement with the Secretariat of Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, with the project entitled “Support developing Parties to phase-out industrial Persistent Organic Pollutants” . The implementing duration of the project is ten months, lasting from July 2014 to April 2015. Three parties will be invited to involve in this project, including Cambodia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The overall objective is to reduce exposure and risks emanating from new industrial POPs, through the identification and phasing out of new POPs in products and articles while introducing POPs free alternatives and substitutes in developing countries.By conducting literature review, expert interview and field visits, issues to be completed mainly include: Development of a new module about HBCD; Compiling of information about industrial POPs in target countries; PBDE sampling, analysis and training; and case studies in major fields.
