The Third Physical Meeting of the Partnership for Action on Computing Equipment (PACE) was held from 13 to 15 December 2010 in the Sino-Italian Tsinghua Environment and Energy-efficient Building (SIEEB), Tsinghua Unversity, which was under the financial support of Ministry of Environment of Japan, organized by the PACE Working Group in collaboration with Basel Convention Coordinating Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China), and supported by Ministry of Environmental Protection of China. There were 52 participants from 12 Parities and Signatories, 9 Basel Convention Regional and Coordinating Centres (BCRCs), Secretariat of the Basel Convention and International Organizations and Industries and Academic institutions in this meeting.
On 13th December morning, Mr. Xinmin Li, Director-General of Department of Pollution Prevention and Control, Minstry of Environmental Protection of China, and Ms. Katharina Kummer Peiry, Excutive Secretary of Secretariat of the Basel Convention, and Mr. Shunichi Honda, Officer of Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and Prof. Gang Yu, Chair of Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tsinghua University, made the opening address orderly who Prof. Jinhui Li, Excutive Secretary of BCRC China, expressed the distinguished welcome and introduced to all participants. In addition, Mr. Kexiong Du from Minstry of Environmental Protection of China and Ms. Na Wang from National Center Of Solid Waste Management also participated in the meeting.
The main topics of the meeting include the membership list, budget, guidance doument, progress report prepared by 4 Project Groups and 1 Sub-group, preparation on PACE for the tenth Conference of Parites (COP 10), planning of 4th Physical Meeting of the PACE in 2011, and study on the Transboundary Movement (TBM) of e-waste. The next steps and works including teleconference during the meeting were discussed and identified.
During closure of the meeting, both co-chairs, Prof. Oladele Osibanjo and Mr. Marco Claudio Buletti, thanked the Secretariat and BCRC China for organizting this meeting. Ms Katharina Kummer Peiry attend the last part of this meeting and congratulated the group on successful meeting.
This meeting will be helpful to further facilitate the activities and progress of the PACE Working Group, preparation for COP 10 on the draft decisions and side events of PACE, and promote the communication and cooperation on environmentally sound management for e-waste in the world.
