Combined Meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Polychlorinated Biphenyls Elimination Network (PEN) (Fourth Meeting) and of the Core Teams of the Thematic Groups was held at School of Environment, Tsinghua University on 7th to 8th, September.
The meeting was jointly organized by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Basel Convention Coordinating Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC Beijing) / Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Capacity-building and the Transfer of Technology in Asia and the Pacific (SCRCAP). Totally 16 participants attended the meeting, including members of Advisory Committee of the PEN, UNEP, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Secretariat of Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions. In addition, Director of Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Environmental Protection of China delivered welcome speech to all the participants. The themes of the meeting include the terms of reference of the PEN, activities, work plan, fund-raising, etc.
The meeting is the first meeting of Advisory Committee of PEN since PEN’s leadership transferred from Secretariat of Stockholm Convention to UNEP. Therefore, it has great significance for the development of PEN and global PCBs elimination.
