The “Workshop 2011 of the Asian Network for Prevention of Illegal Transboudary Movement of Hazardous Wastes” was held on Nov. 29-Dec. 1, 2011 in Shenzhen, China. The workshop was supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), China, and co-organized by Basel Convention Coordinating Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China) and Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan (MOEJ) 37 delegates from 12 countries/region, relative organizations and Secretariat of Basel Convention (SBC) and Basel Convention Regional Centre for South-East Asia (BCRC-SEA) attended the workshop.
Director General Mr. Li Xinmin of Department of Pollution Prevention and Control, Ministry of Environmental Protection, China, Mr. Kazuhiro Yoshida from Waste Management and Recycling Department, Ministry of Environment, Japan and Execute Secretary Prof. Li Jinhui gave opening remark of this workshop. All the participants discussed the updates on national regulations and border control activities for enforcement of the Basel Convention; main outcome of COP 10; current practices of recycling and treatment of hazardous wastes and mapping of ESM facilities in Asia as well as the Collaboration between Asian Network and other regional network. The participants visited the Shenzhen Shekou customs at the last day of the workshop.
Asian Network for Prevention of Illegal Transboudary Movement of Hazardous Wastes is an platform organized by Ministry of the Environment, Japan. The workshops have been held annually since 2003, environmental authorities and international organizations are invited to attend.
