On March 27, 2013, Workshop on “Sound Management of POPs in articles and phasing out opportunities in developing countries and emerging economies” was held in Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. Totally 14 delegates from Ministry of Environmental Protection, Chinese Research Academy of Sciences, China Association of Fluorine and Silicone Material Industry, Tsinghua University, Peking University, China Flame Retardant Society, PFOS production plant and SCRCAP attended the meeting. The workshop introduced and discussed project background and technical outline, current management policy and trend of chemical, current situation of the production, usage and alternative of PFOS and PBDEs in China, etc.
The project “Sound Management of POPs in articles and phasing out opportunities in developing countries and emerging economies” was launched by the Secretariat of Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention at the end of 2012, and implemented by SCRCAP. It will target the use of BDEs and PFOS listed under the Convention in applications in China. The overall objective of the project is to reduce exposure to and risks emanating from new POPs through the identification and phasing-out of new POPs in products and articles.
