Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for Capacity‐building and the Transfer of Technology in Asia and the Pacific abbreviated as SCRCAP, is serving as a nominated Stockholm Convention centre on the basis of Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (BCRC China) since November 2007 and has been endorsed as the regional centre for capacity building and technology transfer by the fourth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP4).
SCRCAP has experience in dealing with hazardous chemicals including POPs at regional level since 1995. In recent years, the professional staff of SCRCAP have actively participate in many projects on POPs in China with funding from GEF and other bilateral sources, and have accumulated experience in the phase out, reduction and control of POPs under the Stockholm Convention, especially on BAT/BEP and the environmentally sound management of PCBs‐containing waste.
SCRCAP is hosted by and located in Tsinghua University in China. The relevant institutions to support SCRCAP within Tsinghua University are the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, and POPs Research Center of Tsinghua University.
The coordinators of SCRCAP are Prof. Yu Gang and Prof. Li Jinhui. The Executive Director, Prof. Li Jinhui is responsible for daily routine. Meanwhile the centre has full‐time staffs and part‐time experts. There are four units with full‐time staffs, MEA Coordinating Unit, Programme Support Unit, Capacity Building Unit, and Regional Initiatives Unit. The key technical experts include Prof. Hao Jiming, Prof. Wang Wei, Prof. Zhang Pengyi, Prof. Jiang Jiangguo, Dr. Huang Jun, and Dr. Jin Yiying.
